Although retention knobs often look very similar they are not interchangeable. The use of an incorrect knob or the misuse of a knob may result in injury or property damage. It is the responsibility of the end user to verify the supplied knob is correct for the machine.
Retention knob failures may occur for several reasons: improper knob configuration, misaligned machines, metal fatigue due to usage, over torquing, exceeding the machine's capability, etc.
Retention knobs should periodically be inspected. If there are signs of excessive wear or damage, the retention knob should be replaced.
